I Was Made For You

This delightful picture book has just the right mixture of humour, adventure, jeopardy and sentiment, as woolly Cat sets off into the snowy Christmas night to find out why he has been made. He receives encouraging answers to this existential question from a variety of inanimate objects: including the steps to the house – “to go places”; the snow itself – “to dance”; the rock – “to be strong”; and the stars – “to shine”. But the sad ironic truth is that even as he learns what he might become, he has caught himself on a nail and is slowly and unknowingly unravelling. How he is rescued and what he learns of the fundamental meaning of his life makes a warm and satisfying ending to a perfectly realised tale.
