Lollipop and Grandpa and the Wobbly Tooth
Illustrator: Cate JamesWhat does one do when one has a ‘wibbly-wobbly, bibbly-bobbly’ tooth? Well, if you are Lollipop’s Grandpa, you have some highly imaginative ideas on how to remove the tooth. How about a tug-of-war to pull it out? Or a woodpecker to knock it out? Or an elephant to suck it out? Lollipop isn’t convinced; in fact, she’s downright alarmed. Perhaps, Grandpa suggests, we should have a snack and think about it. A big, red apple solves the problem nicely, and Lollipop now has a big gap, just like Grandpa has. A visit to the dentist reassures Lollipop that all is well, and she and Grandpa go home to slurp soup together through their respective gaps. This story is fun and has some subtle references to the bad things sweets can do to teeth. The pictures are in a comic style, with lots of spiky hands and hair – and even Grandpa’s moustache. Integrated print with lots of variation adds to the textual fun.
