There's a Shark in the Bath
When Dulcie notices that last night’s bath hasn’t been drained, it’s not just the cold soapy water that is filling up the tub. She tries to tell her parents that there’s a shark in the bath, their only advice is for her to fish it out… and so she does! Papa Shark, Mama Shark and Baby Shark have all got hungry tummies and it’s only Dulcie’s clever stalling techniques that keep her from becoming their breakfast. A few rounds of ‘Brushety-Brush game’, the ‘Wiggety-Wig game’ and the ‘Happy-Wrappy-Uppie game’ keeps the sharks amused but the bathroom is a mess and Dad’s at the door demanding to come in. Can the shark play the ‘Spick-and-Spanny game’ in time?
As ever, Sarah McIntyre’s noisy illustrations are bold, bright and extremely beautiful. Cute Dulcie’s doing her best to distract those pesky sharks and managing to show that brushing your teeth, washing your hair and tidying up after yourself is really important and we learn that even bathtub sharks are frightened at the prospect of an angry Dad! Funny, silly and a little bit scary this is a picture book that could become a staple in the bedtime routine – right after the brushety-brush game.
