1001 Stories: The Story Museum launches new online collection
Supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, The Story Museum has launched 1001 Stories, a brand new, free to access story resource for everyone.
Launching during the National Year of Reading, 1001 Stories serves as the digital treasure chest of The Story Museum, an ever-growing online collection celebrating the power of stories in all their forms. This exciting new digital resource for parents, carers and educators invites everyone to dive into the joy of stories, discover new writers and stories, and share the tales that shape who we are.
1001 Stories is an exciting new story-finding resource for educators, parents, and carers, showcasing The Story Museum’s collection of great stories to grow up with, as well as exclusive content. Alongside contemporary stories, you’ll also discover classics like Alice in Wonderland, the Chronicles of Narnia, and other much-loved tales that have sparked imaginations for generations. Visitors can meet authors like Katherine Rundell, Joseph Coelho, Wendy Shearer, Caz Lester and more, who are all there to help you find story inspiration, whether it’s how to share poetry with children, or how to bring stories to life.
The site provides a synopsis of each story, links to supporting resources which might include a recording of an oral story, a lesson plan or an activity to try at home, or ways to further explore a story and/or author. The site also features creative responses from children and young people such as zines, podcasts and book reviews. Where relevant, stories link to objects and displays featured in the physical Museum.
The Story Museum’s CEO Conrad Bodman says: ‘1001 Stories showcases our collection of great stories to grow up with. We are
excited to launch this rich new story resource that’s open to all and forms part of our contribution to this year’s National Year of Reading. With 1001 Stories, we want to ensure that every child in Oxfordshire and beyond can access the best of what The Story Museum has to offer.’
Stuart McLeod, Director of England – London & South at The National Lottery Heritage Fund, says,’We’re proud to support The Story Museum in creating 1001 Stories thanks to National Lottery players. Stories are an important part of our shared heritage and this project will open up these treasured stories, making them accessible to all and preserving them for future generations.’
1001 Stories is now live, find it here or via The Story Museum’s website.
