Misty Falls
This is the fourth book in the series about the Benedict family and their friends. They are part of a worldwide community of ‘Savants’, people who have special powers such as precognition, truth-telling, finding people, etc. The heroine, Misty, is a cousin of the Benedicts. One part of the story describes Misty and her relationship with Alex, who turns out to be her ‘soulfinder’ or other half. However their relationship does not follow a calm path as young Savants are being targeted by an unknown killer and several have already died. When Misty is kidnapped, things become very serious and we are left to wonder if she will be the next victim. This is a series with a mix of romance and action which will appeal to a wide audience, but mainly female.
The action is set in South Africa, Cambridge and the USA and the author seems to have done her homework on these areas. Despite the storyline, which does get very dark at one point, this is quite an easy, almost light read in the way that it flows. It is an ideal choice for post exam relaxation or to take on holiday. There is plenty of action and the story deals well with the problems of growing up and parents having to accept that their child has now reached the age where they have some control over their own lives. Although this book is part of a larger series, they can all be read as standalone novels. A nice addition to the school library.
