Champions of third What on Earth! School Quiz Challenge announced
Congratulations to Ryde School with Upper Chine from the Isle of Wight, recently announced as winners of this year’s What on Earth! Schools Quiz Challenge. This is the third national What on Earth! Schools Quiz Challenge, which is aimed at identifying the school with the best general knowledge in the country.
Out of around 300 entries, eight schools, four junior and four senior, made their way to Stationers’ Hall, London for the thrilling live final, hosted by Christopher Lloyd, author and founder of What on Earth!.
All quiz questions were inspired by topics covered in past editions of What on Earth! Magazine, which features regular content from What on Earth! nonfiction books, including mind boggling and amazing facts, extraordinary feats and awe-inspiring true-life stories. Each participating school received free access to past digital editions of the magazine to help their students become quiz champions.
All teams received a trophy and a selection of What on Earth! books to take home.
Elmore Speller, aged 11 from the champions team, Ryde School with Upper Chine, the Isle of Wight said ‘I am amazed we managed to win because we came for the first time and we didn’t think we’d do it. I think we got through on our quick reading skills and our banana mascot definitely gave us the belief that we could win!’
Christopher Lloyd, Founder and CEO of What on Earth! Magazines and quiz master said, ‘Our third national quiz final has been a huge success and I have been thoroughly impressed with the dedication and enthusiasm of our young quizzers during the last few weeks of preparation and competitions. A huge thanks to all the schools across the UK who took part and congratulations to the finalists on the day and, of course, the overall quiz champions, Ryde School with Upper Chine from the Isle of Wight – I am already looking forward to making the quiz next year even bigger and better and finding our new UK schools quiz champions for 2025!’
