Queen of Teen 2012
Maureen Johnson (The Name of the Star and 13 Little Blue Envelopes) has been voted Queen of Teen 2012. New York based Maureen enlisted the help of twitter to gain support for the title. The other shortlisted authors were Cathy Cassidy, Sarah Webb, Joanna Nadin, Cathy Hopkins, Samantha Mackintosh, Chris Higgins, Hayley Long, S.C. Ransom and James Dawson.
Branford Boase Award 2012
My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece by Annabel Pitcher, edited by Fiona Kennedy and published by Orion Children’s Books has won this annual award, given to the author and editor of the most outstanding debut novel for children.
UKLA Book Award Winners 2012
The UKLA Book Award is unique as it the only national book award selected by teachers from both the primary and secondary sectors. The judges were all teachers from schools across Leicestershire and Coventry.
The winning book for the 3-6 years category was Iris & Isaac by Catherine Rayner, Little Tiger Press.
The winning book in the 7-11 years category was Sky Hawk by Gill Lewis, Oxford.
The winning book in the 12-16 years category was A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, ill. Jim Kay, Walker.
CLPE Poetry Award 2012 Shortlist
Established in 2003, the annual Poetry Award encourages and celebrates outstanding new children’s poetry. The shortlisted titles are:
Goldilocks on CCTV by John Agard, ill. Satoshi Kitamura, Frances Lincoln, £12.99
Holding the Hands of Angels by Brian Moses, Salt Publishing, £6.99

The judges for this year’s Award are Philip Gross, Morag Styles and Fiona Waters. The judging panel is chaired by Julia Eccleshare. The winner of the 2012 CLPE Poetry Award will be announced on 24 July 2012.
