Double Act

Double Act is an exciting book which involves two identical twins and was written by the famous Jacqueline Wilson.

Ruby and Garnet are ten-year-old twins. Identical. They always do everything together especially since their mother died three years ago. They live with their dad and gran but when their Dad comes home with another woman they have to leave their house and go and live in the country leaving gran behind. The girls aren’t happy! Then more trouble comes when the girls get separated because Garnet gets a scholarship to a boarding school and has to leave Ruby behind.

My favourite part of the story was when the girls find a diary and fill in accounts of their days. I would probably say this book is for 8-12 year olds. I would recommend this book to independent readers. Alannah McNulty

Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan 6

Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan 6 is a fantastic tale of myth, monsters and battle, created by none other than the genius, Hiroshi Shiibashi. While the day belongs to humans, the night belongs to Yokai as the war between Roku Nura (the future commander of all Yokai) and his night parade of one hundred Demons and the 800 Demons of Shikoku thrashes on. Tamazuki (the lord of the 800 Demons of Shikoku) tries to overthrow Nurahiyon and the Nura clan but as Roku Nura’s Yokai blood awakens he vows to protect the Nura clan and his grandfather’s reign. The particular bit I like most is when Roku’s friend, Yuki-Onna saves him from Tamazuki’s blade and Yosuzumi’s blinding feathers by freezing them with her eye of ice. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone over 8-years-old but this is only one of them – why not read them all! Thomas B Morgan

Gangsta Granny

Gangsta Granny was written by David Walliams. This book is a very funny book, which involves an important mission which granny and Ben embark upon. First we meet Ben. He wants to be a plumber when he grows up. Another important character is granny, she looks like a boring old granny but she isn’t! This book takes place in Ben’s house, granny’s house and London. Gangsta Granny is an entertaining, and interesting book.

The story is about Ben who goes to his granny’s every night and finds his granny really boring. One night he can’t go so he wants to find out why. He rides over to his granny’s and finds out… She is a gangsta! Then Ben and granny plan a secret mission to go to London and steal the crown jewels.

I absolutely loved the book. It was all very funny but there were some bits that made me laugh till I couldn’t breathe! So I would recommend this book 5/5! If you like the sound of this book then go get it! Bethany Gillingham

Stormchaser: The Edge Chronicles

Stormchaser is the sequel to the brilliant book Beyond the Deepwoods by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell. The story begins when Twig is striding around the dirty city of Undertown and sees the Cater bird in a shop window. It reveals the truth about his father. A knight academic from Sanctaphrax sent out to find the precious stone called stormphrax that stops the great floating city fly away. Twig and the crew of a great sky ship set out on a perilous journey trying to avoid danger but it keeps coming to them. Soon the crew abandon ship only to find out that they are lost in the perilous twilight woods. They have to get back to Undertown; all they have to do is cross the treacherous mire with poisonous blow holes, killer white ravens and a killer guide. How hard can it be? Be careful because this book is sure to hook you in. If you enjoyed this book, make sure you read Beyond the Deepwoods, Midnight over Sanctaphrax, The Curse of the Gloamglozer and Cloud Wolf all by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell. Sam Gorman
