After seven years of pioneering work Seven Stories, the Centre for Children’s Books has opened in a converted Victorian mill in the Ouseburn Valley in the heart of Newcastle, just a stone’s throw from the quayside. The realisation that the original work of British authors and illustrators for children was increasingly finding its way abroad, was the spur to create a Collection which would preserve an important part of our national heritage for posterity. The Centre is the home of manuscripts and illustrations by some of Britain’s leading writers and illustrators for children. Visitors will find regular exhibitions of manuscripts and original artwork and the chance to explore their own creativity through play and hands-on exploration. There will also be opportunities to meet authors and illustrators. The Centre has a bookshop and cafe.
