A Friend in Need

Author: Julia JarmanIllustrator: Kate Pankhurst

Three best friends at school, who know each other inside out, or so it seems… Erika, Phoebe and Daisy have their ups and downs as all school friends do, but it is when Erika starts acting out of character that her friends get worried. What could possibly have gone wrong? The friends set out to investigate, and it is eventually the realisation that they really can trust each other that starts to solve Erika’s problem. The story is told in chunks, each coming from one of the friends, which makes the story easy to break up and read for any child who has not yet developed reading stamina – likewise teachers will find this mode of story telling useful for reading the book aloud in class. Thanks to the misuse of a mobile phone, there are (also) plenty of issues worth discussing in the book. Well worth getting for the classroom library.
