A Little Blue Dot

Author: Maren Hasenjäger

Somewhere in the great big universe, so inconspicuous you could almost miss it, floats a little blue dot.

This beautiful picture book introduces us to our universe and the planets within it, in a gentle and appealing manner. Earth herself becomes the narrator of the book, with each planet personalised and described as a neighbour, with their own quirks and personalities.

Glorious illustrations show the planets in their positions around the sun, with relevant information shared in an easy to understand format. Earth feels small and insignificant compared to the other planets with their special traits and beautiful features, until the other planets tell her that they are actually envious of her, with her giant oceans and warmer climates. When the little voice of a child on her surface reminds Earth of her own unique qualities, she is left feeling quite a special dot after all.

This story is packed full of scientific information about the whole solar system and how humans have explored it thus far. A wonderful way for children to learn more about space in a charming and reassuring way.
