An Awfully Beastly Business: Bang Goes a Troll

Author: The Beastly BoysIllustrator: Jonny Duddle

I read this book on a day spent stocking up on books for Key Stage 2 mindful of my colleagues’ plea for titles that would take children from picture books to novels. If that’s the end, Bang Goes a Troll could be one of the means. But like many a means to an end it’s not the most outstanding way to do a job.

The story is enjoyable enough, a plain battle with a couple of good villains in Baron Marackai and his henchman, Blud. A plain plot, wrapped up with trappings that will enhance the book’s appeal. There are good illustrations that will have appeal to comic fans and the cover has a hologram. These are gimmicks, but I think they’ll do a job. So, have a copy for Key Stage 2!
