Animal Noises

Author: Dawn Apperley

Review also includes:

Animal Moves, 978-0747583028

Animal Noises/Moves incorporate clever paper engineering with a winning formula for interaction between child and adult. Children can be encouraged to imitate animal noises and movement. The animals used are readily identifiable with their own sounds – mooing, squawking, buzzing etc. Some of the innovative pop-up features can be used by young children, including lifting flaps and pulling whole sections of paper. Of the two, Animal Noises has the more child-friendly paper engineering. The images are bright and cheerful, but the books are let down by the quality of the artwork. As with all pop-up books, children will enjoy the interactive design, which involves animals as diverse as penguins and bees. Art notwithstanding, the concept of these books is highly effective and they will be enjoyed by children.
