Boffin Brainchild
Tom is just a normal boy, with an interest in modern technology, so when there is a school visit to see the world’s most advanced robot ‘Boffin Brainchild’ he can’t wait. However things do not go as Tom thought or hoped they would. He manages to stay in the display area for an extra look at Boffin but when the robot starts talking to him things start to go out of control. Despite Tom’s arguments Boffin hides on the school coach and Tom finds himself suspected of stealing the robot. How this tangle is sorted and what the end result is forms the main part of the story.
This is a funny, intriguing and fascinating story. You really feel sorry for Tom as he tries to make Boffin understand what is acceptable, and what is not. It is like dealing with a toddler, but a lot worse. It will be great fun, especially for boys and there is the added interest of then finding more to read about real robots. It is always good to see books produced by small publishers and Natterjack are a Yorkshire based company that are new to me. It will be interesting to see how they develop in the future.
