Cross Crocodile

Author: Mwenye HadithiIllustrator: Adrienne Kennaway

Did you know why Crocodile lies in wait in the water in the hope that one day she may finally catch Monkey? Here is a remarkable story of trickery, set in the Great African Plains. The animals are hot, thirsty and hungry. Hot oranges and reds and a hazy sun give off enormous heat as Crocodile, alone under the shade of the single mango tree, monopolises the luscious fruit. ‘Swissh’ goes her huge tail at anyone daring to approach. In a brilliant example of teamwork, Monkey marshals all the birds of the air and beasts of the ground to terrify Crocodile, tricking her into thinking there is a wind coming that will blow all animals off the earth. When Crocodile pleads with Monkey to help save her, the animals oblige by tying her securely to the mango tree trunk. The pictures complement the story beautifully, the scenery is apt and the creatures full of character. Like the many other animal stories by this talented author/illustrator duo, Cross Crocodile would be just perfect for role play and dramatic productions.
