Danger by Moonlight

Author: Jamila GavinIllustrator: Suzanne Barrett

Gavin’s reputation as a versatile and compelling storyteller is again confirmed by this title, first published in 2002. In Danger by Moonlight, Filippo goes on a long and dangerous mission to rescue his father. His only means of revenue is a priceless diamond which he hopes to use in exchange for his father’s life. But the journey he makes from his native Venice to Hindustan is fraught with many dangers in spite of travelling with a guide. Almost anything that can go wrong does go wrong, but is related in such a way that the reader, like Filippo, will want to press on no matter what. The resolution to the story, though not particularly happy, is realistic – and will help its readers to grow in understanding of the world and its troubles just as its hero Filippo does. Very well worth getting, whether for the classroom, library or school.
