Hot Dog, Cold Dog

This larger format board book is bright and bold delight. Each spread shows a dog but simple opposites (new dog, old dog) become increasingly surprising and more inventive with each turn of the page. My favourite page shows a ‘clever type of reading dog’ (guess what book he’s picked!) and a joyful ‘jump up to the ceiling dog’.  All that activity is of course quite tiring, even for dogs so the book ends neatly with a final command ‘time to go to sleep, dog’.

Lovely artwork and a bouncy text, as early board books go there really is nothing not to like here. One word of warning though – the book is really weighty but the super thick card pages and gloss finish should mean it can stand up to any biting and slobbering – be it from baby or dog!
