I'm Feeling (a little bit) Shy

Author: Anna MilbourneIllustrator: Åsa Gilland

This intriguing interactive book explores the concept of shyness. The ingeniously designed holes, cut from the tough pages, help to show the little girl that being shy is ok, and her mother will help her learn to handle her shyness in new situation. Having a tummy full of fluttery feelings is called having butterflies, and they are to remind her to keep watching, listening. The whole book is a running conversation between mother and child, the peep holes adding to the expectation of following the story. It is illustrated with great sympathy and understanding. All the children show their emotions, whether timid, scared, scared, or grumpy, and there is much to encourage talk between the readers. Sometimes a page is full of happiness, with butterflies, rainbows and hearts and flowers, all in glowing colours. A book to reassure, every time a child is feeling insecure.
