In a Little While
Illustrator: Mary McQuillanWhen Wobbily Fang wakes up one morning to find his mum isn’t there, Father Wolf explains that she isn’t well and will be away for a while, but they will visit each day. Hospital is a strange place to Wobbily Fang after his life in the forest, and mummy looks little and lost. So he thinks up ways to cheer her up, and each time they visit her eyes begin to sparkle a little more. The story ends with her happy return. The illustrations, full of textured brush work, are striking. The cosiness of home contrasts with the angular lines of the town where the hospital is, and the ward, with a bear to one side of mum and a moose to the other, manages to convey both bleakness and humour. Lots of lovely detail in a story that will appeal to children missing mum for whatever reason.
