It's Raining Pigs & Noodles

Author: Jack PrelutskyIllustrator: James Stevenson

Review also includes:

A Pizza the Size of the Sun, 978-0007140008

Prelutsky is one of the most popular children’s poets in America and over the years has built up a considerable British following. He has said that poems ‘with the accent on humour and light verse’ are more relevant to today’s children. Therein lies the strength and the weakness of these two new collections. The poems usually use the first person voice, are light-hearted, amusing and full of imaginative word-play: Chuck: ‘I’m Chuck, the chore evader / and adept procrastinator. / I’ve got lots of strategies – / I’ll demonstrate them later.’

However, they become relentless and one just longs for the relief of a more thought-provoking poem without ‘I’ or ‘me’ in it.
