Jellybean Goes to School

Author: Margaret RocIllustrator: Laura Hughes

Jellybean is very excited about starting school as she really wants to learn all sorts of things, such as ‘why clouds are white and fluffy’.  But when mum takes her next day and she sees all the noisy children, she is suddenly afraid.  Perhaps it would be better to go home.  Mum is reassuring, and when the teacher introduces her to Alex and they can admit to each other that they are missing their parents, she begins to feel better.  She and Alex have a great day together, enhanced by Jellybean’s lively imagination, and when mum comes to collect her, she is full of excitement. The illustrations are fun and energetic, and the scenes where Jellybean is imagining stories to run parallel with the more mundane things going on in the classroom are super.  Jellybean may well become a writer!  Good preparation for an imaginative child beginning school.
