Maudie and Chip: The Perfect Day Out
Maudie is super excited; so too is her dog Chip as they anticipate their trip to the beach and what they might eat and do once they arrive to make sure it’s the perfect outing. Candyfloss, sun, sea, sandcastles and sunsets are on the agenda. Best friends the two might be, but they don’t always see eye to eye, especially when things don’t go as they expect. Chip is fine with spontaneity – well mostly, but as for Maudie, she is upset by the unexpected wind and rain as well as the squawking, hungry seagulls that swoop down after their chips. Then as they consume their candyfloss, Maudie remembers about the boat trip they’d planned and the sunset. Off they go in a swan pedalo and find themselves stranded: it looks like a disaster day but will that be how it ends? Is it possible that thanks in no small part to Chip, there’s a silver lining?
Rosalind Bearshaw has created a sweet, heartwarming story of friendship, kindness, adventure and difference with striking, slightly retro style illustrations. It will make a lovely read aloud at story time and both young listeners and adult sharers will be pleased to hear that more books featuring the delightful duo are planned.
