Mi and Museum City
Mi lives in a dull, ever so boring city full of dull, ever so boring museums. One day he hears some beautiful music and decides, after following it to its source, that his city needs a museum of beautiful sounds to mitigate the dullness. In an attempt to bring some cheer to his community, Mi tries to persuades the Mayor to allow him to open such a museum, but it isn’t until he demonstrates the beauty of his own favourite sounds (that of various pebbles dropped from varying heights) that the Mayor realises that sound is, in fact, energising. Permission is given and Museum City is revolutionised. It becomes a fun, bright place to be and Mi celebrates every day by visiting his very favourite museum – the Museum of Starlight Benches Arranged at Different Heights for Pebble-dropping and Other Fun Things.
If ever you want a book so full of detail that you don’t know where to start, this is the book for you. Every page leaps into life as Mi’s narrative develops. The style of illustration is redolent of Richard Scarry, although the story line has a uniqueness all its own.
In addition to the fun to be derived from reading the book, it would make an excellent resource for teaching about mapping. A full fold-out poster of Museum City is provided, but every page is also a map in its own right. This is definitely one for the classroom bookshelf.
