More and More Rabbits

Author: Nicholas Allan

The rabbits are cute, and the counting goes up in threes, but there’s something distressingly coy about this book. Mr and Mrs Tail (rabbits, you’ve guessed) have three little children. They go to bed and it isn’t long before they have three more. They go to bed again and it isn’t long before they have three more. This keeps happening. They don’t know why – Is it the moon? Is it the cat? Do they need a new bed? By the time we get to the page with countless rabbits on, Mr and Mrs Tail have worked out that they need to sleep in separate beds. I’m not sure what the adult or the child will make of this book. Sleeping in bed together means you’ll get three rabbits? Rabbits always come in threes? And I’m not sure I really want to count the rabbits each time. I’ll make do with the thought that there are lots of them. So it doesn’t work as a counting book, or as a birth control book.
