Nora Nightsky: Double the Drama

Author: Rebecca Lewis-OakesIllustrator: Becka Moor

Nora and her family are stars in the constellation Ursa Minor, on which people can wish, and in this second book in the Nora Nightsky series, her brother Fergus is celebrating granting his 5,000th wish. Nora and her good friend Leap, from the hare constellation further South, love playing games with Little Bear, as he’s not very good, and they always win. Nora is not keen on granting wishes from afar, but would rather go down to Earth and enable people to find their own way to what they have wished for. This apparently caused a lot of trouble in the first book, and of course there will be trouble this time, especially as 2 wishes seem to have been mixed up: therefore ‘Double the drama’.

In the Wish-Post letter, it looked as if Maya wants to make her own comics, but she keeps insisting on wearing the right shoes and going outside. It turns out that her neighbour, Mo, who loves drawing, coincidentally also wished on Nora on the same night, and Nora realises that her older sister Koko mixed up the wishes to get Nora into trouble. Nora has her Dazzle-o-meter, which enables her to do a certain amount of magic, and she needs enough to get back to space, but it does get dangerously low, and it’s not very helpful when Leo the Lion and Savannah the Snake constellations come down to check on her, and to warn her to watch her stardust level.  Nora finds life on human Earth a bit puzzling, which is fun, and she doesn’t have any human money, but she copes, and makes good use of the local library.   Sadly, there was a nasty librarian, (in glasses and cardigan!)  who, once Rhyme Time was over, insisted on silence… Life does get very complicated, but of course she sorts it all out eventually, and the two children make good progress in their hobbies. Will she reveal her sister’s treachery? You will have to read it to find out!
