Penguin Pandemonium: Christmas Crackers

Author: Jeanne Willis

A lot of penguins live in the city zoo. There are rockhoppers, fairy penguins, emperor penguins and chinstrap penguins. The penguins want to celebrate Christmas because they have never celebrated it before, and when Santa parks his sleigh, full of presents, close to their enclosure, they see their chance. So Muriel, Brenda, Hatty, Blue and Rory use a pogo stick to help them escape over the wall. However, whilst they are looking for presents in Santa’s sack, he comes along and drives the sleigh away. After an exciting journey, the sleigh arrives at a school, and an hilarious school adventure ensues for the five stowaways, as they disguise themselves as children and join in with the children’s school day. They decorate cards, make a snowman and even end up in the children’s nativity scene. However, by the end of the day, the penguins are missing the zoo, but how will they get back?

Penguin Pandemonium: Christmas Crackers is part of the Awesome Animals series and the second Penguin Pandemonium book. Other books in the series feature meerkats, pandas, koalas, raccoons, otters and llamas. The story is extremely funny, and children will identify with the engaging characters who get into a series of silly situations. Finally, the use of animals (both male and female) means that it appeals to both boys and girls.
