Planet Earth: My Life So Far

Author: Mike BarfieldIllustrator: Jess Bradley

I highly recommend getting your hands on this comic-style paperback if you enjoy non-fiction books. It covers our planet Earth from its beginnings 4.5 billion years ago to far into the future. The pages are divided into three sections: My Past, My Present and My Future. As you will have noticed the text is written in the first person, which brings the story alive. Biodiversity, recycling and global warming all appear inside the covers.

There are attractive illustrations throughout and colourful maps and timelines to help us to remember important facts. My favourite spread is entitled ‘My Inside Story,’ (p. 32-33) and shows the different layers of earth underneath the crust where we live.

Mike Barfield manages to communicate lots of information using humour and great diagrams. The illustrated glossary at the back of the book is very useful to the reader.
