Princess Disgrace: First Term at Tall Towers
Tall Towers is a finishing school for princesses and only twelve are admitted each year. Grace makes an interesting entrance and is number thirteen. If she stays it is up to the unicorns to choose, and she does.
This is a charming boarding school with no magic but a few knights, unicorns and tournaments thrown in. Grace has all the elegance of a baby camel but has a warm heart and adventurous spirit. School is only blighted by the presence of her cousin Precious, her name says it all. Precious is a ‘mean girl’ and tries to make Grace’s life as uncomfortable as possible. Fortunately Grace’s friends stand up for her.
The story closes with a grand tournament which involves Grace’s disgrace and redemption, then Precious receives her comeuppance, all very satisfying.
This is a better than average read with well-rounded characters and a heroine that will appeal to every girl that falls below the ideal of a little princess. It is bound to have shelf appeal and we are only one term down. I look forward to the second term at Tall Towers.
