Sausages

This boldly illustrated picture-book with its well honed narrative is a vivid and down-to-earth treatment of the traditional cautionary tale about how important it is to mind your language if you’ve been granted a wish. Following an act of kindness to an elf, John is granted no less than three wishes, but after wasting one of them on a rash demand for sausages, the other two end up in the frying pan as well. The short and simple message is conveyed in concise language, big black text, and gold-spangled colours against shiny white pages. Jessica Souhami is a puppeteer and storyteller, and the directness of these arts is apparent in this book.
