Scaredy Squirrel

Author: Melanie Watt

Scaredy Squirrel is so scared that he never leaves his nut tree. He has to admit that life is boring, but on the other hand, he is safe from his special fears – green Martians, killer bees, tarantulas, poison ivy, germs and sharks. His daily routine may be predictable, but he is safe and in control. However, even his emergency kit can’t save him when the unexpected happens and Scaredy finds himself falling – no, flying – from his tree, because it turns out he is a flying squirrel! He learns that life can be adventurous and carefree outside his cosy existence, and perhaps he won’t need that emergency kit just yet. This Canadian production makes its point with wit and sophistication, and the acrylic illustrations are light and airy, full of splashes of colour and humour. Good for kids who don’t like changes. Some of the North American terminology may need explaining.
