Scout and Ace: Kippers for Supper

Author: Rose ImpeyIllustrator: Ant Parker

Heroes Scout (the dog) and Ace (the cat) set out on a trip into outer, outer-space, ‘sucked through a worm-hole to a strange new place, lost in a galaxy called Fairy Tale Space’. In this latest book in the Scout and Ace series, they encounter a space-fairy with a laser in her hand who grants them three wishes. Needless to say, Scout and Ace do not handle their choices with care and the wishes are amusingly wasted. Emerging readers with whom I shared the book found the text clear and fun to read, but the real sparkle of this series lies in Parker’s vividly colourful and witty illustrations of Scout and Ace sparring with one another. ‘Fire the engines and lower the dome, once more our heroes are heading for home.’
