Shine Like the Stars

This picture book introduces the young reader to the planet, and everything all around. ‘I am planet Earth. The stars surround me…You make your home on me. You are part of me.’  ‘I am the sun. Sit with me. Watch me.’ We are introduced to the ocean, a seed, for which we have to wait and not get cross when it takes a while, the sky in its various moods, the moon, which controls the tides, and the stars, ‘We are the stars, waiting to shine’. Author Anna Wilson declares, ‘You rise like the sun, breathe like the ocean, grow like the seed, your moods change like the clouds. You light up like the moon. You shine like the stars.’ Children all over the world (including a Japanese girl flying a kite from her wheelchair) experience various aspects of life on earth, with charming illustrations by Harry Woodgate.
