Stop Sticking Stan!
Young children absolutely love collecting things and will warm to Stan’s hobby – collecting stickers. How did this interest start? Stan was rewarded with a sticker with a star on it for tidying his bedroom without being asked. He continued to tidy up, to eat his vegetables and to go to bed when told and soon he earned a giant pack of stickers. But his chart was full and so he began putting stickers everywhere– on walls, wardrobe doors and duvets until the whole house was covered! The illustrations are full of colour and detail and show things very much from a young child’s viewpoint. Young readers and listeners will love the sticking frenzy and the huge range of sticker pictures on every possible subject – animals, food, vehicles and playthings. Alas, Stan’s parents ask him to take them all down and give him a big brown box to store them in. But, guess what, the cardboard box was the start of a new collecting obsession! The story shows the mismatch that sometimes occurs between a child’s enthusiasms and parents’ need for order and neatness. This would be a lovely story to read to a nursery class or to a sticker fan at home.
