Stuck Inside

Boredom might seem like the anything but a desirable feeling but maybe it actually serves as a space-clearer for creative action. it’s certainly so in this story of young Tilly, stuck indoors on a rainy day with her dog Toby, stuck indoors on account of his injured paw. But then the little dog drops his lead (an outdoor thing) at Tilly’s feet and looks up hopefully at her waiting for a response. He certainly receives one although perhaps not quite what he wanted, for his action gives his owner an idea. Together the two of them search inside for outdoor things: they look behind closed doors, in dark dusty corners, into drawers, on shelves and under beds discovering all manner of unlikely items. There are old toys, broken brollies, bats and balls, even a deflated paddling pool: the starting point for some planning, imaginative play and creative constructing. Having ‘tweaked and twiddled’ what they come up with is the most astonishingly splendid ‘Dog-Walking, Storm-Protecting Machine’ – just the thing for endless flights of fancy with which to explore the outside fun that was burgeoning in their minds,

With their plethora of patterns and textures particularly the grainy effects, the scenes both beyond the windows and indoors, serve to highlight the rainy nature of the day.
