Once again these short, sharp sentences none more than ten words intrigue, excite, enchant. Each is designed to spark further ideas (or discussion) which will result in stories created by the reader themselves. They are not prescriptive nor should they be seen as such. Different readers will respond uniquely and should be encouraged to do so; a far cry from much current practice. As with his earlier collection, Coelho has gathered a new group of artists, all illustrators, to provide exciting imaginative visual triggers to launch the words. Again there is nothing literal about these artworks – they are designed to capture feelings, emotions, and ideas. Here readers will meet such practitioners as Jarvis, Sydney Smith, Natalia Shaloshvili among others; each with their individual style creating individual responses to the words on that particular page. However, Coelho understands that the imagination might need a path before it can feel free. At the end of his book he provides a set of questions – ideas – to help oil the process and take the fear out of that first step in finding out what the story around those ten chosen words might be; what love story will emerge.
