The History Keepers: Circus Maximus
This is the second in the series of books featuring Jake Djones and his family, who are History Keepers. The purpose of their society is to make sure that the route of history does not get changed by some renegade History Keepers, including Agata Zeldt ‘the most evil woman in history’. In this adventure they have to travel back in time to AD 27, further than ever before, and are caught up in the life of ancient Rome and the chariot races of the Circus Maximus.
This action story is a really fast paced. The hero does not always get things right, in fact he spends a lot of time in trouble, but things work out in the end. A fascinating mix of history and boys own adventures, this will attract both boys and girls with its mix of engaging characters and the speed at which the action flows. There are ever growing numbers of series using the time travel theme and this particular series is well positioned at the top of the list. It has an interesting central concept and the ability to maintain the storylines, especially with the underlying search for Jake’s brother who may be dead, or perhaps he is lost in time. Only time will tell?
Having enjoyed the first in this series, I was delighted when this one arrived and it has not disappointed. I look forward to the next addition to the series.
