The Sticky Rock Cafe
The Young GeeZers are switched on to what is being done to the planet but authority figures seem oblivious and bent on immediate self-gratification despite Earth’s imminent destruction. The often violent tensions between the two are played out through the lives of three main characters with so many others in the frame that a Dramatis Personae is required.
And then there are the originators of the titular café, who may present as well intentioned but have sinister, totalitarian designs and methods to rectify the situation – The Dekaydence Company, who get into the title of the next in the series.
Lots of current statistics are woven into the fast-moving action to hammer home its worthy messages, but in plot terms there’s a lot of the same and some parts lack clarity. It’ll take a keen reader to get beyond the first 20 or so pages. As for the sequel, I for one didn’t end up much wanting to know what Ruby Q, Piccolo, Will and their friends do next.
