The Very Noisy House
Illustrator: Gosia HerbaAs young readers open the book, they will spot an intriguing gate and will inevitably wonder what they’ll find behind it. They are taken on a guided tour of a very noisy house starting with the garden. Here we encounter a cacophony of sound from cats and bees to helicopters and doorbells.
As they explore the house children are encouraged to join in, making musical sounds in the music room, finding out about echoes, trying to be quiet, whispering and tiptoeing, or being very loud, shouting and banging. There are funny sections with a ‘silly room’ and a ‘mixed-up room’ where we find owls bleating like sheep and wolves hooting like owls. There are scary pages too; watch out for lion waiting to roar at you and the ghost in the spooky cellar.
This is an engaging, interactive book with a simple but clever premise and lots of opportunities for under-fives to explore sounds in the world around them and to make sounds of their own.
It is another highly successful book from the team who created The Nose, Toes and Tummy book and is likely to become a firm favourite with the very young.
Fortunately for parents and carers, the book ends with the peaceful sounds of bedtime. Great fun.
