The Web of Fire
This sequel to The Dreamwalker’s Child finds Skipper and Sam back in Aurobon four years after its leader, Odoursin, was defeated by the forces of Commander Firebrand. They find themselves beleaguered: Vahlzi has been destroyed and Odoursin’s armies have decimated its fighters and resources, but they are determined to continue the fight, however hopeless it seems. With the help of their former comrades in arms and Salus, the Guardian of Worlds, they begin their mission.
What follows is a story told in cinematic prose, hurtling along at breakneck speed, taking the reader along at every stage. This is densely constructed, white-knuckle ride narrative, ripe for film or even television serialisation. Intriguingly advanced technology produces parasitic worms which can be programmed to alter human behaviour, giant flying hornets and killer robber flies which do battle in the skies. Espionage and counter-espionage, bluff and double bluff all combine with a core of idealistic and courageous characters to produce a classic David and Goliath story where goodness survives against impossible odds and friendship knits together a shattered world. Irresistible stuff – and strikingly presented with a blood-red cover to complete the package perfectly.
