The Yeti Files: Meet the Bigfeet

Author: Kevin Sherry

This new illustrated series introduces children to Blizz Richards … a yeti! Blizz is cheerful, friendly and helpful and enjoys explaining all about his life and his family. A yeti, we learn, is not quite a man, not quite an ape, and has an IQ somewhere between Einstein and a land tortoise.

Blizz’s headquarters are a fantastic cave that is filled with playful paraphernalia of which all children would be envious. A super-computer emerges from beneath a climbing wall, which leads to a crystal cave, a collection of comics and a cinema!

Blizz’s HQ is also secret. This is because the yetis have all taken a powerful oath to never be seen by the outside world. Though this clandestine lifestyle has its limitations, Blizz is quite happy hiding out with his friends, Alexander (one of Santa’s helpers) and Gunthar – a goblin. Unfortunately, this peaceful existence is compromised when Brian, Blizz’s cousin, has his photo snapped by George Vanquist, an evil ‘cryptozoologist’ who is on the hunt for nature’s secret specimens.

The yetis and their friends have to work together to have any chance of matching the devious George and stop him from publishing more details about their secret lives. Luckily, there are plenty of colourful and mischievous animals more than willing to lend a hand.

Kevin Sherry’s characters are original and endearing and the relationship between Blizz and his friends is quite heart-warming. They are brought to life ingeniously through hilarious illustrations. Each page is different but a striking and comical effect is maintained from start to finish. Though able readers might prefer the narrative to include greater detail, the cheeky caricatures that populate each scene will be plenty to keep them entertained.
