The Yoga Ogre
Illustrator: Simon RickertyOgden is an ogre but clearly not one that frightens people. It’s more the largeness of ogre-hood that’s being emphasised here. He’s a smiling, friendly looking chap who’s worried one day when he finds his ‘jim-jams’ have grown too tight. He’s advised to take up a sport and tries basketball, football, hockey, horse riding and golf – causing substantial damage in the process as he is so large and heavy handed. Is yoga a safer option? Lying on the floor is fine but up against the wall and doing a handstand wrecks the wall and the ceiling in the town hall building. Ogden sits sorrowfully wondering how he’s going to get thinner if sports and yoga are out of the question. The next day, with no Ogden in sight, people wake up relieved to have a bit of peace and tranquillity, until suddenly there’s a thunderous noise. An earthquake? A herd of elephants? Something volcanic? ‘”Oh, no!” cried the people in terror and dread… “Ogden has taken up jogging instead!”‘ This is a super title with a rhyming text that flows really well, supported by bright and bold illustrations that capture interest.
