Transform! How everyday things are made
Illustrator: Bill SlavinThis book offers some 69 spreads describing the manufacture of everyday things, divided into Fun and Games (footballs, guitars, …), Around the House (dental floss, pencils, …), Soup to Nuts (bread, salt, …), Cover-Ups (jeans, silk, …) and Back to Basics (aluminium, rubber, …) It is only mildly North American (American footballs, baseballs). There is a one-page glossary and a short booklist. Each spread begins with an historical paragraph and is divided into simple steps, illustrated by sketches, rather than diagrams. The only problem is that there are human figures in a great many of the sketches, sometime disproportionate in size, making it difficult to discern the actual scale on which the process illustrated is being carried out.
