This first picture book (recently short-listed for the new Read it Again! Award) is something of a gem for younger children in its simplicity of concept and execution. It is all about curiosity and mischief, as demonstrated by two sisters who decide that it would be a good idea to have a go at all the things that they have watched mum do; mixing food, putting on make-up, washing clothes and so on. The ensuing chaos is nicely portrayed through simple, understated drawings, allowing personality and detail to be projected by the reader. Pastel colours and an attractive mat paper finish make this a pleasing object to own.
Of course the girls learn the error of their ways by being invited to join in the clearing up process.
