Very Little Red Riding Hood

Author: Teresa HeapyIllustrator: Sue Heap

In this hilarious and realistic reworking of the well-known fairy story, Very Little Red Riding Hood is characterised as a thoroughly modern miss. Undaunted by the wolf’s antics, the feisty little girl takes control from her first meeting. Nothing will stand in her way – Wolf isn’t allowed to touch the cakes for Grandmama, is thoroughly told off for picking yellow flowers instead of red and is then commanded to join in hide-and-seek once they finally reach Grandmama’s home.

Many cups of tea later, very little (and very tired) Red Riding Hood suddenly bursts into tears as she misses her Mum. Then the wolf really comes into his own, tickling her until good humour is restored. Finally, exhausted, they all sleep happily ever after.

The images are busy, with lots of action to keep young minds engaged. The unusual twist in the story will amuse, while many readers will identify with the strong, determined central character.
