What about the Tooth Fairy?
Although this is a hardback picture book it is laid out like a comic strip with quite a lot of text and requires an older child to read it because they, I think , will also enjoy all the jokes and asides that are in there. You need a bit of context to enjoy this book at its best as it is about a Tooth Fairy who would like to have her own celebration as she feels that Father Christmas has his day, Cupid has Valentine’s Day etc.
The Tooth Fairy is set lots of challenges in order to acquire her special day. She of course has great difficulty doing so. For example there is a funny page full of the Easter Bunny popping out an Easter egg with the greatest of ease but obviously the Tooth Fairy can do no such thing. There are various other disasters which make the Tooth Fairy despair and she gets very upset. Thankfully, at this point the other characters realise they need to be much kinder and they come up with a way of explaining that she is so special every day is her day.
The book has a great message and I think KS2 will enjoy the illustrations and the humour. They will especially like the comic book design which will gives lots of detail to look at on each page, for example with speech bubbles and signs to read.
The double page spreads of the inside of the Tooth Fairly castle and maps are especially colourful and detailed. I’m not sure you should look at that page if you are going to the dentist though-it might set your teeth on edge!
