Wild Moose Chase
This is the story of the search for a mystical cheese, long talked about, but never seen or tasted. The twins Cam and Bert live with their cheese making grandfather near to Cheddar Gorge. On the day of the prestigious World Cheese Fair there is a surprise visit from the Queen, who sets the cheese makers the challenge of finding the correct ingredients and making a Wild Moose Cheese in time for a State visit by the French President. The twins stowaway in the balloon being used by the official judge (the Queen’s own cheese maker) and head off to Mongolia to the find the ingredients.
What a wonderful mix of the absurd and the adventurous. It is fast paced and funny, a real rollercoaster of ridiculous events. If you have seen The Wacky Races or The Great Race, then this will give you some idea of the overall feel. The book is full of puns and silly humour that will keep the readers groaning, but laughing at the same time. However there are some serious underlying messages about getting on and working together which are important not just for the twins but for everyone around them. The author has produced a great and original story for this age group which makes a welcome change from some of the mass produced stories being churned out. A welcome addition to the school library, both primary and year 7.
