Witchworld
Illustrator: Chris RiddellFlo Skritchett is a thoroughly modern witch. In a world of skychatters, spellsticks and Potions2Go, her life in witchworld with high-flying magazine editor mum and prom mad witchteen sister is turned upside down when her old fashioned granny turns up complete with outmoded cauldrons, a real broomstick and talk of a threat of a ghoul attack. But as every modern witchkid knows, ghouls are now extinct … or are they? When Flo realises that Gran may know the truth, she must summon all her bravery, break all sorts of rules, and risk her own safety in order to save the population of Haggspit.
This is a witch story for the modern reader who will enjoy getting to know Flo, an ordinary witchgirl who has ordinary worries, but who must step up to save the day. The narrative is pacy, characters believable and readers will enjoy the modern ‘witchisms’ the author has cleverly created. The presentation and front cover will appeal to younger readers, but the content, complexity and length mean this is more likely to be fully appreciated by readers at the top of this age range.
