Sidney is not like other pet monsters. He’s always clean and smells slightly sugary, his hair is tidy and free of creepy-crawlies and his owner Albert is pretty sure he’s the best pet monster that anyone could wish for. But when a monster competition comes along, lovely Sidney doesn’t fit into any of the monstrously yucky categories that give points for parasites and winning votes for the most warts! Sidney and Albert are so ashamed, but at the end of the day the judges make sure that no one leaves without a prize – even sweet little Sidney.

Silly and sweet with a good pinch of yuck, this picture book is an all-round winner. Little ones will love the mucky monsters (though parents might prefer the sound of Sidney!) and the message celebrates individuality and trying your best. Hindley’s cool illustrations are beautifully designed and a fun text from Bee makes this a great pairing – here’s hoping there is more to come!
