The MA programme was validated in 2000 and is now fully recruited for its second year. This unique course evolved through the success of the Cambridge BA Illustration course in producing outstanding children’s book illustrators. These include Jane Simmons, Selina Young, Alison Bartlett, Adrian Reynolds and Thomas Taylor in the last few years alone.

This is a part-time programme which takes two and a half years to complete. It involves one full day’s work on campus a week (tutorials, lectures, seminars etc) and a further day a week devoted to course work independently. The students work from an attractive room in the original Cambridge School of Art studios.

The course emphasises the all round creative development of the artist/author in the context of the children’s book. Successful applicants tend to have a good degree in illustration, graphic design or fine art. A significant proportion of current students are practising professionals who wish to take time out alongside commissioned work to explore their true creative potential.
