Beatrix Potter Gallery

Main Street, Hawkshead, Cumbria LA22 ONS

Tel: 01539 436355

Email: beatrixpottergallery@nationaltrust.org.uk

Open April to October, 10.30am – 4.30pm daily except Thurs/Fri.

Entrance charge: £3.50, child £1.70, family £8.70.

The gallery, owned by the National Trust, exhibits original sketches and watercolours painted by Beatrix Potter. This year The Tale of Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and The Tale of the Pie and the Patty-Pan (both celebrating their 100th birthday) will be featured. The gallery is housed in a 17th-century building, once the office of Beatrix’s husband William Heelis, and used by her as the model for Tabitha Twitchit’s shop. The interior remains largely unaltered since that time and affords an interesting insight into an Edwardian law office. Story reading for families is occasionally arranged.
